McFarland, Jr., 33, died on March 17, 2014 in Dawson, Texas.
Allen is survived by his loving parents, State District Judge Jaclanel Moore McFarland and Allen Keith McFarland, his loving brother, Linch Moore McFarland, all of Spring. He is also survived by his grandmother, Bonnie Baker McFarland, and aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Jack Leon Moore, William Jonas Moore and Junell Linch Moore.
Born in Houston, Texas on October 10, 1980, Allen was extremely proud to be a sixth-generation Texan and of his Scotch-Irish heritage.
Allen attended The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, Doerre Intermediate School and graduated from Klein High School.
He attended Baylor University, graduating in 2005 with a B.A. degree. At Baylor, he was a member and active in the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, where he made many lifelong friends. Through Baylor, he became fluent in Spanish by a total-immersion Spanish studies program in Costa Rica. He studied at the Baylor Oxford program in England.
After Baylor, Allen was employed by the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty in Washington, D.C. and the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
By profession, Allen was a top-notch independent oil and gas landman, known for his ability to catch a land title defect crucial to the success of large oil and gas exploration projects. He studied for and received a Professional Landman Certificate through the University of Texas
. He held memberships in the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Allen loved to travel. He visited England, Scotland, France, Japan Canada, The Bahamas, Mexico, Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the St. Martin Islands and travelled widely throughout the United States.
He was an avid golfer and he loved to hunt and fish. He also loved football, basketball, baseball, the game of chess and outdoor life. He spent many happy times at his family's farm in Dawson.
He made his Profession of Faith at age 7 at Houston's Baptist Temple, where he was baptized.
Allen will be buried on Tuesday, March 25th in Dawson, Texas at a graveside service at the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place prior to the graveside service at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard, Texas at 1 p.m.
A memorial service for Allen will take place at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 South Main Street in Houston on Thursday, March 27th at 11 a.m., followed by a reception.
