Eikenburg died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 16, 2013 while visiting family in Michigan. Barbara was born April 22, 1952, in Muskegon, MI. Her parents, both deceased, were Betty Arlene (Reid) and Charles B. Fles. Barbara is survived by brothers, Charles and David; sisters, Pat and Sandy; her husband, Doug Eikenburg, and children, Forrest and Lindsey. Barbara received her B.S. degree in biology from Michigan State University and worked in research for many years. Most recently, after teaching at Frazier Elementary for several years Barbara became an Autism specialist for the Pasadena School district, where she could help more students than just those in a single classroom. In this role, Barbara exhibited the very best of her humanity, working with extreme passion for the betterment of both her students and their families. All who knew her will sorely miss her. A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 3 PM on Friday August 23, 2013 at Sagemont Church ( The family requests that as an alternative to flowers, interested individuals may make donations in Barbara's memory to FEAT-Houston (, a local charity dedicated to Barbara's passion, the support of children with autism and their families.
