Bob Newman

Bobby "Bob" Austin Newman, 77, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on May 2, 2012, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Bob, a licensed professional engineer, graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering and from the University of Houston with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was a member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity.
Bob and his wife, Kay, of 51 years built a wonderful life and business together. Before retiring a decade ago, they operated an engineering/inspection company for over 35 years. In 1968 Bob was nominated Outstanding Young Engineer by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Sam Houston Chapter. Bob was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Structural Engineers Institute, Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors, Houston and Texas Bar Associations, and founding/charter member of the Foundation Performance Association. In the early 1990s, he was appointed to an Advisory Committee for the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. For numerous years, Bob had served on several committees for Bunker Hill Village and was a member of the Board of Adjustments. He was an active, longtime member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
Bob's favorite pastimes were reading and traveling with his wife and friends. He treasured time spent with his family, daughters Marilyn Newman Baker and husband Doug, Laura Newman Ruthven and husband Perry, and three grandchildren James Baker, Lindi and George Ruthven.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Chapelwood Foundation, Houston Junior Forum College Scholarship Fund, or MD Anderson Cancer Center. Services will be held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, Tuesday, May 8 at 3pm, a reception to follow at the church.
