Daniel Muschalik

DANIEL MUSCHALIK, of Houston, age 84, a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather "Pop" passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and children on Wednesday the 26th of February 2014, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Dan was born in Bayonne, NJ, on the 15th of January 1930, to Paul and Dorothy Muschalik.
Dan attended Horace Mann Elementary School, played basketball for Bayonne Junior College, and was a graduate and faithful Scarlet Knight Alumnus of Rutgers University Class of 1958. He served as a Signalman First Class on the USS Ransom in the United States Navy. He met the love of his life, Therese Ann Hodel, while working in Indianapolis, Indiana, who he was married to for over 62 years.
Dan enjoyed golfing with his children and friends at El Dorado Golf Club and Inwood Forest Country Club. Family and friends were often treated to Saturday night burgers by Dan, but he most enjoyed Friday nights at Molina's and spending beach time with family and friends at Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Dan was a retired executive with Exxon, who spent over 40 years working for a company he was extremely proud to be associated with - his second family. Two of Dan's favorite hobbies were golf and reading. Even after glaucoma took away his ability to enjoy participating in those hobbies he was still interested in who was on the leader board of any major golf tournament or what the latest available book on tape was that was about history or politics.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Terry, his two sisters, June Jaeger of Falls Church, VA, and Linda Cecchini of Toms River, NJ; sister-in-laws Dorothy Frame of Bernardsville, NJ, and Rita Worden of Indianapolis, IN; numerous nieces and nephews; his five children and their spouses, as well as ten grandchildren. Daughter Judy Grisell and husband Lynn Grisell III, grandchildren Meghan and Matt and wife Martha Claire; daughter Elaine Wertheimer and husband Mark, grandchildren Chris and Emma; son Dan Muschalik and wife Rhonda, grandson Reid and wife Courtney and their son Julian; Jim Muschalik and wife Monica, grandchildren Katherine, Madeline, Matthew, and Luke; John Muschalik and wife Sharon, granddaughter Stephanie. His ten grandchildren were the joy of his life and he was always interested in whatever activity they were involved in.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Gabriel Oladimeji, for his loving, compassionate, and devoted care of Dan over the past several years. Gabriel was a great comfort to Dan and the entire family through this journey. In addition, the family wishes to thank Maria "Juany " Mora and Cecilia Mora and their families for their kindness and gentleness with Dan as well as Memorial Hermann Hospice and nurse Jennifer Townes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two o'clock until four o'clock this afternoon, Sunday, the 2nd of March, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A celebration of Dan's life is to be conducted at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 3rd of March, at St Cecilia's Catholic Church, 11720 St. Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, with the Most Rev. Vincent M. Rizzotto officiating.
