Don Holmes

Don Holmes was born in Houston on May 3, 1926. He passed away peacefully on May 19, 2014 surrounded by his family. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1943. After high school, Don enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served in WWII, fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and was a proud China Marine.
Don married Dorothy Gibson in 1947. He devoted his life to raising their five children, Don Jr., Donna, Diane, Dru and Denise. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ormond, his wife Faye and his third wife and high school sweetheart Anne McIver.
He never met a stranger, loved playing golf, cooked a good rack of ribs, always found time for a James Coney Island hot dog and making milkshakes for his grand-and-great grand kids.
His family and friends will celebrate his life on May 28 at 10:15 a.m. with full military honors at the Houston National Cemetery.
