George Horton

Horton (Buddy),
Col. US Army (Ret.) age 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 3, 2013.
In 1944 at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country in World War II, Korean and Vietnam War in the front lines. He was highly decorated and wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He received his B.S. and was a distinguished military graduate (ROTC) from the University of Alabama. In 1972, he retired as a colonel. He joined Gulf States Toyota and retired as Vice President of Port Operations in 1996.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Susan Coleman Hodges Horton, his son George Jr., brother Paul, and brother-in-law Sid McFaden. He is survived by his brother Clyde Horton and wife Mary Jo, sister Katrine Mcfaden, and sister-in-law Betty Horton. He is survived by his children Melissa (Bob) Burkart, David (Darlene) Horton, George (Bridget)Horton, grandchildren Sam (Erica) Campos, Kate (Brooks)Grado, Bobby, Michael, Holly and Shelby; three great grandchildren Caroline & Cody Grado and Susan Campos, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A remembrance service for Buddy and his wife Sue will be held at Family of Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 13 at 10:30am. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
