Gordon A. McKay

GORDON A. McKAY, age 62, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2008. Born in Titusville, Pa., Gordon was the third son of Twila and Donald McKay. He graduated from Rice University and received his PhD from the University of Oregon. He worked as a planetary scientist at NASA Johnson Space Center for nearly 30 years to discover the origins of the Moon and Mars. He is internationally known for his experimental work, duplicating in the laboratory the important processes that formed the Solar System. He served as Chief of the Planetary Research Division, Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate. He served as El Lago City Councilman and was a pillar in the Seabrook Sailing Club. His warmth and good humor will be sadly missed by all who worked with him. Gordon is survived by his wife, Linda Uljon, and his 2 daughters, Gabrielle and Alisa. Other survivors include brother David and wife Mary Fae of Friendswood, and their 3 daughters and families; brother Gene and wife Annelie of Orlando, Florida. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 13, also at Crowder, Clear Lake.
