James Edward "Jim" Abernathy

JAMES EDWARD "JIM" ABERNATHY, age 53, passed away suddenly on December 6, 2004. `Jimbo' grew up in Houston, graduating from Ross Sterling High School in 1970. He worked for Gulf Oil Company attending the University of Houston at night, where he proudly graduated with a BA in 1978. He retired from Chevron Pipeline and moved to Pflugerville in 1997 with his wife and children to live among his brothers and sisters in the Austin area. Jim was a wonderful father and never met a stranger. He was an active member of his church and all his children's activities, including many sporting events and the Boy Scouts. Jim loved baseball, played it poorly and will be missed by his teammates on the "Riverdogs" in the local Men's Senior League. Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence and Evelyn Abernathy of Houston. He is survived by his wife Laurie, daughter Erin, and sons Bill and Craig, as well as sisters Linda Shaub of Marble Falls and Susan Murphy of Pflugerville, brothers Clyde Abernathy of Pasadena and Roy Abernathy of Round Rock, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, TX, 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas, (512) 251-4118. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m, Thursday, December 9, 2004 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church 1520 N. Railroad Avenue, Pflugerville, with Reverend George Joseph as Celebrant. Interment to follow in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
