Janis Simonton, 64, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 12th following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Janis was born in Houston, Texas on January 13, 1949. She was the second of three children born to C.C. "Bud" and Cathaleen Simonton. She was a 1967 graduate of Spring Branch High School, where she was an officer in the Bruin Brigade, and a 1971 graduate of The University of Texas
at Austin. Janis taught 14 years for Landrum Middle School and 23 years for Second Baptist School, both in Houston, Texas, and she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for women educators. Janis was an avid University of Texas athletics fan and was in attendance at almost every home football game since 1967. She was a Godly woman who devoted herself to her family and faith. Janis is preceded in death by her parents, C.C. "Bud" and Cathaleen Simonton.
She is survived by her sister, Jeannene Simonton; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sondra Simonton; her nephew and wife, Christopher and Lani Simonton; her niece and husband, Meredith and Matthew Johnson; and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 16th at 4:00pm in the Sanctuary of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive.
