Jesse Carter

Jesse Carter,
our beloved husband, father, grandfather, golfer, and friend passed peacefully from this life to the next on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, one day after the ninth anniversary of his quadruple bypass surgery. Poetically, he collapsed on the golf course. Jesse was a member of an elite club, a native and lifelong Houstonian.
He was born on December 20, 1935 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He graduated from M. B. Smiley High School in 1955, and later proudly served in the US Marine Corps Reserves. Another unique characteristic of Jesse's was that he was a "company man." He worked for Gulf Oil Co. for 28 years and later for Chevron for 14 years. In 1999 he transitioned seamlessly to retirement becoming an active community volunteer. Jesse baked cookies for and videotaped the Katy Bengal Brigade and Cheerleaders for years. One of his proudest accomplishments was being named KHS Volunteer of the Year in 2005. Golf consumed much of his time, too. He organized the "Old Codgers League" golfing at Green Meadows, Cinco Ranch Golf Club, and Bear Creek Golf Club. Recently, Jesse joined the American Legion Lone Star Post # 366, Katy, TX. Jesse loved all sports, but he was a devoted and avid Katy Tiger football fan. We know he will be cheering them on from heaven. Waiting to welcome Jesse to his heavenly home are: his son, Kendall; his brother, Donald; his parents, Jesse and Flora Lee; and his father-in-law, Harold Corbin, our "Big Daddy." Left to cherish his memory here are: wife, Kathy; daughter, Amanda and her husband, Matthew McDaniel and their son, Carter; daughter, Laura and her daughter, Brooks; mother-in-law, Jo Corbin, and sister-in-law, Carol B. Corbin; mother to his sons, Nancy Carter; son, Jamie and life-partner, Gary Coffman; son, Joel and his wife, Whitney and daughter, Ashley; son Karey and his wife Dee and their children Hailey and Kyle. Jesse's siblings include: sister-in-law, Betty Carter; sister Sibyl Gilbert and her spouse, John Ellis; sister, Linda Jones and her husband Jerry; and brother, Mike and his wife Pam. Jesse was our "hero and the wind beneath our wings."
A celebration of Jesse's life was held Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to: Account of Kathy Corbin Carter, TTEE for Jesse J. Carter, attn: Mary Garcia at Chase Bank, 400 S. Mason Rd., Katy, TX 77450. Proceeds will be used to purchase a defibrillator for Bear Creek Golf Course.
