Joan Schafer Wicker Acer

JOAN SCHAFER WICKER ACER of Richmond, VA, formerly of Houston, TX, died Sunday, June 22, 2003. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold George Schafer, she was born in Evansville, IN., graduated from Bosse High School, attended Lindenwood College for Women and graduated from Indiana University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After a business career of nine years, she married Thomas Edward Wicker who passed away in 1977. She then married Charles Donald Acer in 1980, and he passed away in December of 1998. Mrs. Acer is survived by a sister, Alice Schafer Bailey and brother-in-law, John W. Bailey of Nashville, TN.; two nephews, Dr. Allan Bailey of Nashville, TN., and John Jenks of Richmond, VA.; and two cousins, Susan Diane Hull of Houston, TX., and Victoria Hull Fisher of Austin, TX. She was a member of The Women's Club in Richmond, Willow Oaks Country Club, a member and volunteer of Reach to Recovery for ten years, and also on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Acer served as a docent at the Wickham House, Valentine Museum. She was a member of Reveille United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Women's Society. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Wednesday, June 25 at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Interment will be at 2pm, Saturday, June 26 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reveille House, Reveille United Methodist Church, 4200 Cary Street Road, Richmond, VA 23221 or the charity of your choice.
