John Alspaugh

John Melvin Alspaugh, age 59, passed on suddenly Friday morning, September 16, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. due to a heart attack while on a much anticipated motorcycle trip in California. He is predeceased by his father, John, and mother, Naomi . He is survived by his wife Jane, sons Jeremy and wife Kalette, and son Josh. He is also survived by brother Bob and wife Peggy, sisters Christina Parsons and husband John, Lily McElroy and husband Billy, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.
Growing up, his father served in the Army, and their family moved from place to place every couple of years. John met his wife, Jane Alspaugh, in the year 1966 when he was only fourteen years old. They lived in different parts of the city, but re-united and officially began their relationship in college on the University of Houston campus. They married on June 9, 1973 and started a family five years later.
John worked for Shell Oil Company for 40 years. He was very skilled in computer science and passionate about new technologies, serving the latter part of his career at Shell as the coordinator of the Virtual Reality Labs.
He has resided the past thirty-five years in Sugar Land, TX with his family. He enjoyed hobbies of preparing gourmet cuisine, raising exotic birds and dogs, and most of all, riding his Goldwing motorcycle. He was a part of a riding group called the Southern Cruisers.
Loved by many, Johnny will be deeply missed and mourned for by his family and many friends. His wife, Jane, and sons, Jeremy and Josh Alspaugh, invite his family and friends to celebrate the memory of John's life at a special Memorial Service on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:00pm. It will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sugar Land, TX. There will be a reception at the church in the Great Hall following the service.
