John Henry Plant was born August 1, 1927, In Branford, Connecticut, and died November 15, 2013 at Elmcroft, formerly Hearthstone, in Conroe, Texas. He was the son of Mildred Hotchkiss Plant and Ray Upson Plant. His brothers, Ray Upson Jr., Edward Hotchkiss and Norman Pardee predeceased him. John and Mary Blue Johnson were married November 12, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Blue, and their sons Edward Johnson Plant and wife Kay and John Thomas Plant and wife Carol. Grandchildren are Robert Plant, Michael Ellis and wife Shaunte and Sarah Ellis Tutt husband Howard. Two great -grandchildren, Jeffery and Zachary Tutt. He is survived by his nieces Holly Ann Fossl and Susan Larpenteur and nephew Macready Plant and by nieces Sue Burgess and husband Tom, their sons and families and Jean Smith, husband David and their sons.
John was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church. He graduated from Mount Hermon prep school and attended the University of Connecticut. At Mount Hermon he lettered in several sports, and was the captain of the hockey team. His forte was track, particularly cross country, and continued running until late in life. He joined the Navy near the end of WWII after his junior year and finished his senior year after his Navy Service.
John and Blue moved to Conroe in 1972, and he continued hunting and fishing. He retired from First Mortgage Company of Houston as an Assistant Vice President where he managed company owned properties. He was President Emeritus of the Houston Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management.
No service is planned and a gathering of friends will be held at a later date. If you wish to remember his memory please donate to your local school or public library.
