John Caleb Stowers,
age 84, passed away July 2, 2013 in Austin, Texas. He was born October 10, 1928 in Natchez, Mississippi to John H Stowers and Effie Stowers.
John graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Engineering and later received his Law degree from the University of Houston in 1973. He was a veteran of the Korean War
and honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1955. He worked at NASA
in Houston, and as an attorney for various Houston Title companies including Charter Title and LandAmerica.
John married Charline Morrison in 1959 and had two children, John and Jean Christina. They lived together in Las Cruses New Mexico, Huntsville Alabama, and eventually relocated to Clear Lake City Texas in 1965. After he retired, he moved to Austin Texas in 2004.
John was a long time ultra runner, race walker and outdoorsman. He ran many marathons including long distance races that were up to 100 miles long. He ran the Leadville Trail 100 race 34 times from 1989 to 2004. To him, a 10 mile run was just a warm up.
John is preceded in death by his parents, son John Caleb Stowers V, daughter Jean Christina Stowers, and brother Luther Stowers. He is survived by his sister, Anne Stowers James; nieces Valrie James, Sally James O'Flynn, Susan James Graves, Sara Green, Ann Stowers, Mary Stowers; nephews John James and Luther Stowers; sister-in-law Mina Stowers; daughter-in-law Linda Wheatley and Charline Stowers Coco.
