John Thomas Tromblee passed away peacefully Monday, May 27 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. after a prolonged battle with lung disease. He was 51.
The second of three children born to Gene L. Tromblee, a chemical engineer, and Donna J. (nee Pauli), a Registered Nurse, John was born in Beaumont, Texas. The family eventually moved to the suburbs of Houston and as a youth, John participated in and excelled at gymnastics and horsemanship.
In later years, while pursuing a degree in Journalism at the University of Texas
at Austin, he was actively involved in The Longhorn Singers and was a basketball cheerleader. After graduation in 1985, he worked as a news reporter
in Texas, then moved to New York City to pursue acting and became a participating member of the Screen Actors Guild. John truly loved movies, the theater and popular music.
Soon California beckoned, and John, who had a long-standing interest in psychology, enrolled in a Master's program in Marriage and Family Therapy at The California Family Study Center/Phillips Graduate Institute in Los Angeles. He received his degree in 1993.
An avid classic car and roller coaster enthusiast, John nonetheless found his greatest passion and deepest fulfillment working with special needs children at the Working with Autism agency, where he remained until the advent of his illness.
A kind, thoughtful, and generous man, John routinely donated to numerous charities including Project Angel Food, KCET, and others.
A sister, Jody and husband David Young, nieces Amye Metcalf Rappé and Sara Young, and nephew, Alex Young, survive him.
A brother, James Scott Tromblee, and parents Gene and Donna Tromblee preceded him in death.
John Thomas Tromblee immeasurably touched the lives of everyone he encountered and a memorial service in Texas is planned for later this year.
