Justino Castillo, Sr. age 88, peacefully passed away surrounded by his children, on the evening of Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Thousand Palms, California after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Justino was born on September 26, 1924 to Jose Castillo and Luisa Vigil in Long Beach, California and was the 7th of 11 children. He lived in Mexico (Durango and Nuevo Laredo) and the majority of his life in Houston, TX. During World War II
, Justino was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and was a Private First Class for the 148th General Hospital - Hospital Orderly 657 and served in the Western Pacific Campaign on the island of Saipan and Honorably Discharged in 1946. In 1948, he met his wife and love of his life, Rosie Casanova. They were married for 49 years before her death in 1998.
Justino was preceded in death by his son, Justino Castillo, Jr. and his beloved wife Rosie Castillo. He is survived by his sons, Jose and Richard Castillo; and his daughter, Cynthia Castillo Vogel (spouse Mike) and her children, Nicholas and Christie Mestayer. Grandchildren, Marc, Nathan, Chani, Chelsi Castillo and great grandchildren.
Justino enjoyed working as a Maitre D' at various hotels including the Shamrock, Rice, Warwick and Montague Club, Boccaccio's 2000 Club, Cork Club and Houston Yacht Club. In 1980, he opened Castillo's Mexican Restaurant followed by two more locations. Justino was known as "Grandpa" to many at the soccer fields at Bear Creek Park.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77077.
