Kenneth Joe Whitt

Kenneth Joe Whitt, age 88, of Missouri City, Texas died Friday, February 7, 2014 while in acute care in Missouri City. He was the husband of the late Sally Scalfi Whitt. He was born in Dallas, Texas. He was the son of the late Joe and Lonis Whitt. He was raised in Houston, Texas and upon graduation from San Jacinto High School in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Fray and saw action at Guadalcanal, the Soloman Islands, and the Phillipines. After the war he returned home, attended college at the University of Houston and graduated with a degree in Business. He was attending law school when the Korean conflict broke out. He received a direct commission into U.S. Army and graduated from Adjutant General's School. He served as a General's aide at Fort Polk, Louisiana and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain after 8 years of service. He returned to Houston and went on to be a successful business man and regional sales manager for Elk roofing materials. He was a community volunteer for numerous initiatives in his neighborhood of Quail Valley, Missouri City. He served as a grand jury bailiff in Fort Bend County and was Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. He enjoyed golf, his neighborhood Scotch and Cigar club, and receiving the finest cigars from his cigar buddy. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and was quite the storyteller. His sense of humor was a comfort to his family and friends during his illness.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Sally, his parents Joe and Lonis Whitt, his sisters Virginia Whitt and Margaret Fontaine.
Survivors include his daughters Linda Whitt, and Margo Whitt Manford and husband John, and two grandchildren Shelby Lynn and Mitchell Allen Manford of Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
Family and friends express their gratitude to Sharon his private caretaker who was so compassionate and loving in providing his care.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 in the State Room of Davis - Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment with military honors, will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Patton, Pat Wilks, Earnest Taylor, Milton Wright, Mike Lorenz, Carlos Castillo, Sam Rader, Ron Lee, and Steve Davidson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kenneth's name to the ARC of Fort Bend County.
