Leslie Lee Spencer

Leslie Lee Spencer of Houston, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 25, 2014. Lee was born July 3, 1935 in Great Bend, Kansas. Lee graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University
, Lee attended law school at Louisiana State University for two years and then entered seminary for one year at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. In 1964 Lee married the love of his life, Mary Louise Ferguson of Mansfield, Louisiana. Lee was a Senior Title Analyst at Exxon Corporation in Houston for 30 years before retiring in 1992. During his career at Exxon, Lee also served as a Lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard
Reserve. Throughout his life, Lee has been well known for teaching in-depth Christian adult Bible Studies, including the adult Sunday School class at Encourager Church, where he and his wife were members. In addition, Lee was the founder and first president of the Spring Branch/Memorial chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. He was also the founder in 1996 and President through 2013 of "The Way East", a Christian evangelical organization that sponsors missionaries to China. In addition, Lee authored a composite of the four Gospels based on the New King James version of the Bible, entitled "The Real Jesus".
Lee is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ferguson Spencer, his son and daughter-in-law, Loren Lee and Brooke Schneider Spencer of San Antonio and his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Clinton and Holly Lee Spencer of Houston. Lee is survived by five grandchildren in San Antonio (Lawson Lee, Rainey Kara, Mary Alice, Cameron Clark, and Thomas Patrick) and four grandchildren in Houston (Mary Louise, Hosanna Katharine, Hallel Anastasia, and Samuel Lee). He is survived by his two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gibbs and Janet Mood of Spicewood, Ronald and Helen Bellamy of Austin, and George Hayes of Helendale, California. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Clinton and Berneice Mae Spencer, and his sister Karen Spencer Hayes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 7th at Encourager Church, 10950 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77043. Burial was held on May 31st in Shreveport, Louisiana with military honors.
