Marvin Louis Deshazo , 76, of Huffman, TX, took his place in heaven on May 15, 2013. Marvin was born on August 22, 1936, at St. Josephs Infirmary, in Houston, TX to Grace Gunning Deshazo and Louis O'neal Deshazo. Marvin married his high school sweetheart Fannie Deloys Folmar on April 20, 1957. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on April 20, 2013.
Marvin attended Port Houston Elementary and Eddison Jr. High. He graduated from Milby High in 1954 and then attended the Universtity of Houston. Marvin worked for the Golden Age Bottling Company while still in high school. He later worked for Pepsi Cola as night warehouse supervisor.
In 1961, Marvin began his career as a firefighter
at the Port of Houston Authority Marine Division. Marvin began as a hoseman on the port's fire boat and could often be seen on the local news fighting fires along the Houston Ship Channel. Marvin worked his way up to Sr. Captain of the port's fireboats. Capt. Marvin retired from the Port of Houston Authority in 1991 after 30 years of service. Marvins father, Capt. "Pete" Deshazo, also retired from the PHA.
After retirement Marvin enjoyed traveling and "R.V.ing" with his wife Fannie. They also enjoyed taking their grandchildren traveling with them. Marvin enjoyed country music, watching westerns, and his four legged babies. "Grandpa" Marvin spent time teaching his grandchildren some of his many skills, carpentry, mechanics, woodworking, and lawn and gardening care, just to mention a few. He always stressed the importance of honesty, integrity, and of doing things the right way. He also instilled in them the importance of an honest days work, for an honest days pay, being prepared for the future and the unexpected, and always have something tucked away for a rainy day.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Fannie Deshazo; daughter, Melinda Deshazo Rambo and husband Joseph B. Rambo III; daughter, Karen Deshazo Baker and Ron Ezell; grandchildren, Bryt Rambo, Nakyshia Rambo Leger and Sgt. Jonathan Leger, USMC currently serving our family and our country overseas; Joshyua Rambo and wife Alyssa Fernandez Rambo, Cheyenne Rambo and Mark Braquet, Travis Baker, Justin Baker, and Jennifer Filip, Trevor Baker; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends and many other "Grandchildren" from his extended family in the community.
Visitation for Marvin Louis Deshazo will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, May 20, 2013 at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 S. Houston Ave. Humble, TX 77396. Services for Marvin Louis Deshazo will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Rosewood Humble Chapel, interment to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
