Milton Richard Beckendorff

Milton Richard Beckendorff was born on August 8, 1931, and passed away at his home, in Katy, on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the age of 82 years. He was the son of Roy Leland Beckendorff, Sr. and Jessie Mansell Beckendorff. He was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast, and hunted out of Doss, Texas, (near Fredericksburg) for 59 years. He traveled extensively as a square dance caller for 25 years. Richard was a rice and soybean farmer, and served on the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service board. He also served on the Board of Directors for Addicks Bank. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Katy all of his life. Richard was a 4th generation of the Beckendorff family living in Katy, and was a 1949 graduate of Katy High School. He earned a Lone Star Farmer Degree from Katy FFA, he was an honorary member of the Katy FFA, and was also awarded the honorary State Farmer Award.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Mark Beckendorff in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Boiles Beckendorff; daughter, Kay Sword and husband Perry Sword; grandsons, Christopher Sword and Kyle Sword; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Erin, Maddie, and Jackson Sword; sister, Ruby Beckendorff Mills; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013, with Rev. John F. Howell officiating. Interment in Katy Magnolia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Randall Beckendorff Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Schmidt Funeral Home, 1415 East Avenue, Suite B, Katy, Texas 77493.
