Our beloved mother, Nancy Merriam McBurnette, 84, passed away on September, 10, 2013. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Peter and Cynthia Lillie of Boulder, CO, Martha Fontana of Sugar Land, TX, and Gretchen and David Hobbs, of Alexandria, VA; her five grandchildren, Vanessa and Jack Lillie, Ryan Fontana, and Christopher and Sarah Hobbs. She is also survived by her dear old friend, Hugh Lillie and his wife, Beth Lillie and numerous other more distant relatives from Michigan, and people who cared about her in the Houston area.
Nancy was a graduate of the University of Michigan
, and was active in jail ministry and civil rights . She was one of the first graduates of the University of Houston Chemical Abuse Counselors Program, and later taught addiction counselors. She worked for many years in area psychiatric hospitals and agencies working with those afflicted with addictions, and their family members. She was a longtime volunteer at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, and later at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Sugar Land. Her later life was greatly enriched by her new friends at The Greatwood Senior Living Residence.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11:00 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Genesee County, MI.
Mom, you are appreciated and loved and will be missed more than words can say.
