Philip K. Shankweiler died on February 11, 2013. He was born August 1, 1935 in Carbondale, PA to Fred Shankweiler and Lila Thomas Shankweiler. During his formative years, his family moved between Delaware, Michigan, Illinois and New York, but Phil considered Wilmington, Delaware to be his hometown where he graduated from the Pierre S. duPont High School in 1953. Subsequently, he attended Syracuse University, the New York School of Interior Design and ultimately graduated from the University of Miami at Coral Gables with the degree of Bachelor of Music in 1963. Phil retired from Rotan Mosle in 1991 at the same time its doors were permanently closed. Phil was an accomplished pianist and also enjoyed working in watercolors. He is a longstanding member of Bering Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his life partner of 40 years, Larry Cash; a brother, Richard, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and a stepsister, Alexandra Trzeciak-Duval of Paris, France and three nephews. His cremated remains will be interred at Woodlawn Garden of Memories. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
