Richard Branum

Richard Davis "Rick" Branum, II, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 28. He was a loving son, father, godfather, great friend and devoted physician assistant who dedicated his life's work to helping the sick.
Rick was born in Houston on May 12, 1952. He graduated from Westbury High School in 1970 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1974. Rick graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1979, receiving his B. S. degree and simultaneous certification as a Physician Assistant. He was a member of one of the earliest graduating classes of the Physician Assistant program.
Rick was a gifted athlete and avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the Shamrock Hilton Diving team and later became a competitive sailboat racer. Rick participated in numerous sailboat races between Galveston and throughout Mexico. He had a passion for running and hiking, too, that culminated in his running the New York Marathon and in his successful climbing of Mount Rainier. Rick's other hobbies and interests included gardening, woodworking and photography.
Rick is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davis Branum of Houston; his son, Richard Davis Branum III; Richard's mother, Debra Locke Branum; his aunt, Mrs. Thelma Ridgway, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service in celebration of Rick's life will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Christian Church, with Dr. Michael Dunn officiating. The church is located at 1601 Sunset Blvd, Houston, Texas 77005. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Rick's name.
