Rosa Maria (Cerda) Garza went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Samuel Garza, two children, son Samuel Garza, Jr. (Kelly) and daughter, Becky Hereford (Mike), two sisters, Martha Garza and Alice Pullen (Steve); and five grandchildren, Kristin, Samantha, Peter, Lisa and Chloe; and numerous other family members and friends.
Rosa was a dedicated education professional and had an illustrious career from 1971-2003 with the Houston Independent School District. After receiving her Master's Degree in Education, she served as Principal for J. P. Henderson, Felix Tijerina, Cunningham, and Roy Benavidez Elementary Schools. In 1996 she was promoted to Assistant Superintendent, School Administration, HISD. In 1988 and 1991 Rosa was selected to attend Harvard University
Principal Institute to further her professional development.
After retirement, Rosa continued to be involved in education, serving as a Facilitator for Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Protecting God's Children) in Crosby, TX, and worked as a Spanish translator for Crosby Independent School District, and volunteered at Crosby Community Center.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to service time at 10am at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 S. Houston Ave., Humble, TX, 77396, Tuesday, April 8, 2014, with interment following.
