Ruth Eileraas

Ruth Janette (Nilsen) Eileraas died peacefully at home on October 13, 2012. Ruth was born September 10, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York to Knut and Marie Nilsen, immigrants from Norway. She grew up in Brooklyn and Huntington, NY, and lived in Minnesota and Indiana before moving to Houston in 1990.
Ruth was a sparkling light in the lives of everyone she touched. Open, generous, and joyous of spirit, Ruth loved travel, music, nature and learning, and she instilled those lifelong passions in her three children. She lived each day to the fullest, finding beauty in music, opera, art, the land, family, and friends. That joy and her abiding faith sustained her throughout her life, especially her final years, when she battled breast cancer in the same courageous and indomitable way she met all of life's challenges.
In recent years, she wrote: "I let go and found myself and life and the joy that I have always had and peace that cannot be explained." She made the world a better place and left us, although too soon, with the inspiration to do the same.
Ruth's husband Kare Eileraas; her children Anne-Marie, Eric and Karina; her four granddaughters; and her sister Mildred and husband Peter Aebisher survive her.
A private celebration of her life will take place at Christ the King Lutheran Church on November 8 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Ruth Eileraas's name to Music Doing Good (musicdoinggood.org), UNICEF or to the .
