Sandy Henry

Sandra Jean Henry, 47, of Manvel, Texas died Sunday, February 3, 2013 after a courageous fifteen-month battle with lung cancer.
Sandy was born on August 28, 1965 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of David and Elsie (Ptak) Kromenaker. She graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, Wisconsin in 1983 and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1988. She married Erik Henry on November 21, 1992 in Madison, Wisconsin. After receiving her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1993, she worked for the ExxonMobil Chemical Company for nineteen years.
Sandy's career with ExxonMobil involved assignments in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Houston; and Baytown, Texas. Her final position was the Global Basic Chemicals Technology Manager. Although she was very skilled at the technical aspects of her work, her real passion was mentoring and helping the career development of fellow employees. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed supporting charities that helped children in need, public radio and television, and, more recently, charities that promoted research and raised awareness of lung cancer. Sandy enjoyed traveling and playing board games with her family, listening to music, supporting the Badger sports teams and the Packers, and, when time would allow, brewing beer.
Sandy is survived by her parents; her husband; her children Ethan and Julie Henry; her older sister Susan Bobholz and husband Scott; and her younger sister Sherri Stroebel, husband Chris, and daughter Ruby.
A memorial service for Sandy will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 9 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in Sandy's memory to the National Lung Cancer Partnership, headquartered in Sandy's hometown of Madison, Wisconsin.
