Susan Hunter

Susan Rapp Hunter, was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 28, 1958 to Bill and Nancy Rapp. She passed away on October 25, 2013 in Houston, Texas at the age of 55. Susan graduated from Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis in 1977. She attended Purdue University, graduating in 1981 with a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering; she earned her M.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston in 1989. Susan's professional career included hardware and software engineering for Texas Instruments, Boehringer Mannheim (now Roche), and Ferranti International Controls.
Susan married Ted Hunter in 1981 and they have one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Hunter of Houston, namesake of one of her favorite authors, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Susan became active in the Girl Scouts of USA because of Laura and spent over 15 years as a dedicated volunteer. She served the Girl Scouts as a troop leader, as co-director of many day camps and twilight camps, served on the cookie committee, the history committee, and as a museum docent, along with numerous other activities. She was an expert in the procedures, rules, and regulations for conducting a great variety of Girl Scout activities, and was a highly qualified trainer, who conducted many classes to train prospective troop leaders, and other volunteers. Susan was a gifted artist, excelling in needlework, miniatures, furniture and cabinet refinishing, and home decorating. She loved books and movies, particularly science fiction. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., and especially the national parks.
Survivors include her husband and daughter, her mother, Nancy Rapp of Indianapolis, her father Bill Rapp and wife Mourlyn, of Ormond Beach, FL; three brothers, David and wife Julie, Mark and wife Nancy, and Jeff and wife Tammy, all of Indianapolis; mother-in-law Martha Hunter, sisters-in-law Carol Roger, and Janet Kendall and husband Patrick, of Tulsa, OK, brother-in-law Bob Hunter and wife Colleen, of Danville, CA, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Susan's life will be held Saturday, November 2nd with visitation from 1 - 3 P.M. and service following at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis. A subsequent memorial celebration is being planned in Houston.
