William Williams

William Joseph "Bill' Williams, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Bill was born May 25, 1921 in Garland, Texas to George and Hattie Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his four older brothers, Herman, Raymond, Glenn and Mack Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances McConnell Williams, his sister, Virginia Satterwhite, daughter Kim Williams, son Alan Williams and wife Sandra, grandchildren Matteo William Pacini, Garth Franklin Williams and wife Sarah, Lauren Williams Fischer and husband Jason, great-grandson Hudson Fischer, and niece Minette Satterwhite as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Bill grew up in Garland and graduated from Garland High School in 1939. After working for the Post Office for a few years he joined the U.S. Army Air Forces and served honorably in Europe during World War II. He was part of the D-Day invasion, and was awarded a EAME campaign medal with five bronze stars for having participated in battles in Normandy, Ardennes, Northern France, Rheinland and Central Europe.
After discharge from the Army in 1946, he returned to Garland and entered the life insurance business. He met and married Frances and then moved to Houston in 1957, joining California-Western States Life Insurance Company. Bill worked in the group life and health insurance business for the rest of his career, founding his own benefits consulting practice in 1973, which he sold to Aon Corporation upon his retirement in 1986.
Bill was an accomplished golfer in his earlier years, then took up tennis, becoming a Charter Member of the University Club of Houston in 1971. He was also an avid skier and long-distance bicycler. He was a prize-winning photographer, and an active member of the Houston Area League of PC Users (HAL-PC).
A memorial service will be held at University Place, 7480 Beechnut, Houston on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bill Davis officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in Bill's name be sent to St. Luke's Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77027.
