Lonnie Beckham

Lonnie Bob Beckham , age 84, passed away peacefully and was called to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Lonnie was born on September 7, 1929 in Tyler, Texas to Welborn Henry Beckham and Evangel Tindel Beckham. Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Beckham. Lonnie was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston, TX. After graduating from high school, Lonnie joined the United States Marine Corps and remained a proud Marine. After his service in the Marines, Lonnie attended the University of Houston where he earned a BS in Civil Engineering. Lonnie was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and made many lifelong friends. While helping building the stage set for Frontier Fiesta at U of H, Lonnie met Marian Prestbo, who was one of the Frontier dancers. They were married on March 31, 1955 at First Christian Church Houston, where they remained long-time members. After graduating from U of H, Lonnie went to work for the US Geological Survey and later the Texas Highway Department, where he remained until his retirement. He was also a faithful member of the Arabian Shriners, The Masons, and The Society of Professional Engineers.
Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Melanie and son-in-law Jim Bagley; grandchildren Melodye and Doug Bradshaw and Misty and Justin Granberry; and great-grandchildren Madelyn Bradshaw and Caleb, Noah, Caitlyn and Suri Granberry. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Grace Brown, and nephews Cliff Brown, Rex Brown and wife Nancy, and great-nephews Lamar and Alex brown. Lonnie is also survived by a large extended family stretching from East Texas to California.
Visitation will be on September 18, 2013 at Earthman Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, Texas from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be on September 19, 2013 at 10:30 am at First Christian Church Houston, 1601 Sunset, Houston, Texas. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
