To the Haynes family. May your father rest in peace. He was a good man, he was a caring man. I have so many fond memories of Seabrook, sailing with him. I miss each of you all so much. Please note each of you are thought of often.

Richard and Naomi befriended my parents in the 1950's at UH and Richard talked my dad into law school. Richard then walked my dad into the Harris Co DA's office and asked the late DA Frank Briscoe to hire him, which Frank did on the spot. When my dad left the DA's office, Richard often referred cases to my father. After my father had to shut his practice to fight cancer for three years, his dear friend and mentor Richard was there when he reopened to send him plenty of business. When I became a lawyer, he supplied me with my first client, and when I became a prosecutor, he often came to visit and regal me with stories of practicing law in Houston in the old days. Whenever I encountered he and Naomi at One's a Meal in the 1980's and 90's, they treated me like royalty. Richard liked to hang out at One's a Meal because many of the waitresses were the former elevator operators at the Harris County Criminal Courthouse.
The friendship and assistance to my family over the past 60 years by Richard and Naomi has been one of the most cherished things anyone has ever done for my family, and Richard never asked for a thing in return. Richard lived a wonderful life, and the world will never know an orator or friend like you again! My condolences to his friends and family and his many protégées who, like me, learned more than a thing or two off of Lawyer Haynes.

I am proud to have met "---Racehorse"-- at Heberts for lunch . Former DA investigators Earl Musick and Jerry Carpenter seated me at "Racehorse's" table and walked away! Giving me a lifetime memory of our conversation about the JEWELRY Business and how he had purchased a complete jewelry making machinery for his Naomi, who Never made a Thing! A wonderful man with a fabulous sense of humor, a legend in the Law, a proud TEXAN and a true Texas gentleman... God Bless his family and hold him close..... sherril stringfellow

To the family of Richard Haynes...my deepest condolences are with you at this time. I feel a special loss because Richard...(Race Hoss) and I attended Reagan High School, were classmates and graduated in June, 1944. Even though WW11 was on, "Heights High School" was a wonderful place to go to school and I'm sure he felt that way, too; Race Hoss was popular and a lot of fun to be around. After graduation, we both went into military service, later college and Race Hoss became Houston's top lawyer.
I think the "Heights" meant a lot to him; he had a special place there where he liked to get coffee, sit down and talk with friends and relax. Everybody knew that if his Cadillac was in front, he was there...he loved it.
Love to the family for their loss.

He was the best there was, or the standard by which his profession should be measured. Rest in peace and know that the Brady Rule might finally be enforced in Harris County thanks to the efforts of fine lawyers as yourself.

Prayers for all the family. Happy childhood memories of sailing on the blue boat and fun days at the lakehouse. I have known Mr. Haynes most of my life, and he became a wonderful and supportive friend to me in my adult years. You leave behind both a personal and public legacy to many of us. Larger than life.

To the Haynes family: I met Mr. Haynes at a party in 1989. He asked a number of questions of me after that introduction. I was 36 years old, recently divorced and trying to find my way. In the hour we talked at that party, he encouraged me more than anyone has before or since. That was the only time I met him - but his positive words and encouraging manner has made a difference in my life, and continues to make a difference to me every day. I'm sorry for your loss - but I hope wonderful memories soften the pain of it. His was a life well lived.

I would like to extend my condolences to my third cousins, Slade, Blake, Ricki and family for the loss of your dad. Many years ago, I told my son who is 57 now that he would live his life time and never see another President such as John F. Kennedy. I now tell my son that he will never see a Defense Attorney such as Richard Racehorse Haynes. Richard is my first cousin, his mother was my Aunt. She was a Pratorius. I speak for my entire family that we are deeply saddened of Richard's passing.
RIP Richard. Your first cousin.

To the Haynes family,
I always considered myself just a little bit special for having known Richard "Racehorse" Haynes both around the Harris County Courthouse and the homestead in West University Place. As a Police Officer in I was always welcome at the homestead. I would stop by for a quick chat, however, Richard didn't know what a quick chat was, it would go on and on. We would talk cases and tell stories, what stories Richard could tell, so funny. Naomi would always have a coke, coffee or some other refreshment, serve it and be gone. What a pleasure it was to know both of them.

Richard "Racehorse" Haynes was a legend and truly one of the best role models an attorney could ask for. I consider myself fortunate to have known him and to have dined with him on many occasions. He is probably appealing his death at this very moment.

My first law firm boss as an attorney has passed to his next journey. My prayers are with you, Richard, and your family. May you always be remembered as the wonderful human being you were and the most respectful and kind boss I have ever had. Just to be around you was an honor and privilege and an opportunity to learn from one of the wisest and kindest, dignified, warmest persons who loved his family so very much. As always, I adore you and lift you to our Lord's loving and caring arms. God bless you!
