Clell Gierhart Obituary
1927-2015
CLELL EDSON GIERHART, JR., passed away peacefully at the age of 87, on August 22, 2015, in Missouri City, Texas. He was born on October 9, 1927, in Shamrock, Texas. He served in the United States Army at military posts in Japan and Korea from 1946 to 1947. Clell graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1951.
Clell moved to Houston and married his college sweetheart, Jeanne Merilyn Bullen on June 7, 1952. He started his career with Manhattan Construction Company. After 15 years of loyal service, he left to organize his own firm, Bullen/Gierhart Construction Company in 1967. In 1980, he engaged in a partnership with Joseph T. Vaughn and the business was renamed Gierhart/Vaughn Construction Company. During his 40-year tenure in the construction industry, Clell served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Houston Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (AGC), Southern National Bank and Texas American Bank.
A beloved husband, father and friend, Clell was highly regarded for his dedication to his family as well as his commitment to the training and advancement of his company employees. His endless generosity toward his his family and his company associates will forever be his legacy.
Clell was preceded in death by his parents, Clell Edson Gierhart, Sr. and Elsie Mae Gierhart, Sr. (Tarvin). He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Gierhart; his daughter, Sheri Roberts and her husband Jeff; his daughter, Jodi Shuck and her husband Phil; his grandchildren, Justin Roberts, Eric Roberts, Kristi Roberts, Kyle Shuck, Ryan Shuck; and his great granddaughter, Georgia Roberts.
A Memorial Service celebrating Clell's life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Frwy, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Clell's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Inc., Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, Texas 77087-1005, 713-314-1313.
