I think of you every time I go to Whataburger and get my breakfast on a bun. I used to throw the hash brown sticks away. You told me, no, put them on your sandwich. I've been doing it ever since. Only one of my memories. I miss you, my friend! Gone but not forgotten!! Rest on Sir.

Think of Larry often especially when I hear the song Elvira. We taught PE together at SLJH for years. I had created an aerobic routine to this song for the girls. Larry saw what we were doing and wanted to use it for the boys. He was always so much fun, easy going and willing to try new things. He was a blessing to all of us. You will see him again, thanks be to our merciful Lord.

Larry was a great administrator and even more importantly he was a wonderful person. As an administrator he had a gift with people He was respected by parents, students and teachers alike. As department head at Elkins, I always trusted Larry's opinion and relied on his support. He was a great judge of people and was a true leader. He had great insight into people and with his gentle way he was able to resolve even the most difficult of situations. I will miss him as will all of us who had the honor of knowing and working with him.

Mr. Patterson wasn't just some ordinary principal that just went with the flow, he really cared about the us students and our well being. We mattered to him and would go to any lengths to help us succeed. He never needed recognition for what he did. Every student he's ever come across always learned some sort of valuable lesson, even if some of us were to hard-headed to see it at the time. Mr. Patterson, thank you for everything you've done for both my sister and I. May God be with you and your family.

Well Mr. Patterson, You were by far the coolest principal I've ever had, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one. You left everyone that knew you with nothing but good memories, and you will be greatly missed. I'll never forget that time I got sent to your office along with one other kid from my Spanish class because a girl mis-placed $5 in her purse...and later found it...But you didn't get on to me or the other guy, why, I don't know. I guess it was because it wouldn't have been fair without knowing both stories. You were always fair, caring, and obviously a really good person, and you will never be forgotten. Kempner High School will never be the same. Rest In Peace Mr. Patterson. :'( KHS Class of 2012. It was nice knowing you!

Mr. Patterson was a great administrator. He cared about students and teachers. He knew kids' names and background and gave them sound advice. He didn't make excuses for them; he expected them to give their very best. The year after he left, my students would ask if there was a chance that he might come back to Elkins. We missed him. When the Elkins Social Studies teachers saw him at convocation or staff development, we would tease him that we would be willing to make a 2 for 1 trade to bring him back to Elkins. RIP, Mr. Patterson, you made a difference in education.

Kate Mitchell

July 4, 2014

What a wonderful administrator, educator, and colleague! He was my "go to" enforcer when my students needed that "daddy talk" --showing compassion, wisdom, and firmess with them. KHS loved Larry Patterson and he will be truly missed.

Oh Mr. Patterson, I don't know where to begin. I will truly miss you in the halls of KHS. Thanks for making my first three years so memorable and so welcoming. I will miss coming into your office and asking you all those "tough" questions as well as all of your supports in our "special meetings" . Thanks for truly making my students feel part of the school and accepting and caring for all the special students. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to Mr. P.'s family and all those who are friends and family. He will surely be missed but NEVER forgotten!!!

Phillip Nguyen

July 4, 2014

I never got a chance to personally get to know you, but I could tell that you truly cared for us students. All the "troublemakers" would always tell me how cool you were, and how you were one of the few administrators that they knew truly cared for us students. Schools most definitely need more amazing administrators like you.
