David Hunt

David Lavon Hunt peacefully left this world to join his beloved wife Julianne and his Lord Jesus Christ on December 16, 2012. A loving husband and father, gracious and kind friend, admired and respected businessman, he strived to live his life in an exemplary and Christian manner. Born in Lone Oak, Texas on June 19, 1919 to David and Emma Hunt, he never lost his pride of coming from Hunt County. His journey led him to Houston to attend the University of Houston and work for National Supply and Schlumberger in the oil fields of Texas. During World War II, David served his country as a member of the United States Navy. In August 1942 he married Julianne Coddou and they built their life and home in the Park Place community of Houston. In 1954 David and Julianne began their own business, Hunt and Hunt Machine Shop. What started as a two person company with one machine has today grown to a worldwide respected manufacturing corporation. David was very involved member at Park Place Baptist Church, where he was an active deacon for more than fifty years. David and Julianne dedicated their home to Jesus and were proud to host many church events, celebrations, weddings, and to provide a home for out of town guests. His community activism extended to many local Houston philanthropic and performing arts groups, local schools, and individuals. His most recent commitment was to the Texas State University Strutters and his support as a Strutter Giant to the building of the recently opened Strutter Gallery. His loyal friendship, encouraging attitude, and loving nature will be missed and remembered. David was preceded in his final journey by his loving wife of sixty seven years, Julianne Coddou Hunt, infant daughter Joanne, parents David A. and Emma Hunt, and his brother Joe Dale Hunt of Fort Worth, Texas. Left to cherish his memories are daughters Jhershierra Jelsma and Dianne Hunt Bowman and her husband Michael Bowman; grandchildren Ric Britain and his wife Deanna, Christopher Bowman and his wife Meredith, Leanne Bowman, and Chandler Bowman; great grandchildren Faith Merritt, Andrew Hurtado, Dylan Britain, Cameron Britain, Kai Britain, and Christopher Bowman. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers and nurses who have become our special extended family members, and have been so generous with love, kindness and encouragement for our parent's comfort and happiness. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Park Place Baptist Church with burial following at Forest Park Lawndale.
