Mary Teegerstrom Obituary

Mary Beth Teegerstrom
1958-2017
Mary Beth was born May 29, 1958 at George Air Force Base in Victorville, California. She passed on January 5, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
She grew up in an Air Force family, the daughter of a career officer. That life took her and her family across the United States and around the world. As a child, Mary Beth lived in Spain, Germany, and Japan. She graduated from Yokota High School in Japan, but fell in love with Spain along the way. Mary Beth attended Florida State University and earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and in Spanish from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
After graduation she began teaching high school in San Antonio, both English and Spanish. During this time she helped create curriculum for freshman Gifted & Talented English, organized and led multiple tours for students to Spain, France, and England, served as the teacher sponsor of National Honor Society, and became known to her students as "Señorita Nordin". Later Mary Beth taught English and Spanish in Austin and Stafford, Texas.
Mary Beth married Erik Teegerstrom on November 13, 1993. Together Mary Beth and Erik had two sons: Carl and Kristian. With two children, Mary Beth decided to leave teaching to be a full-time mom. Mary Beth was a wonderful mother, offering daily examples of work and relationship-building, upholding standards in behavior and academics, speaking with honesty and candor, and always expressing her unqualified love for her sons.
Raised by a family strongly rooted in the Lutheran faith, she remained active in faith communities all of her life. She served as Liturgical Assistant and on pastoral call committee at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Converse, Texas. Later she channeled her knowledge and passion into service at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Houston, creating a Liturgical Assistant program, writing services for Christmas, Easter, and other occasions, serving on Worship & Music and Christian Education committees, and leading Adult Sunday School sessions for years. She even led an occasional worship service.
Mary Beth Teegerstrom is survived by her parents, Glenn Nordin, Col. U.S.A.F (Ret.) and wife Mary; her husband Erik Teegerstrom and sons Carl Oscar Teegerstrom and Kristian Emory Teegerstrom; her sister Glenda Rice and husband Stan Rice, their daughters Rebecca Fike and Valerie Enyart, and their son Eric Rice; her brother Carl Nordin, Lt. Col. U.S.A.F (Ret.) and wife Maria, and their daughters Alyssa Justice and Cara Nordin; her sister Kirsten Beckler and husband Phil, their son Charlie, and their daughters Emily and Serena; and numerous extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church 2400 Wilcrest Drive on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00pm.

Ms. Nordin was my Spanish high school teacher at Lee high school in the late 1980s. She did excellent work and what little Spanish I still know is due to her. I am sorry for your loss.

Mary Beth was a kind teacher and I am so very grateful for her kindness to me, particularly in designing a "Spanish Art" class to help me fulfill my fine arts requirement at Reagan High-Austin. We are grateful for the promises of baptism which she has claimed and for her love of students and the Spanish language. May the peace that passes all understanding be with her family and community.

Erik,

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mary Beth, but I did have the pleasure of meeting those in her family that she touched. I know she is looking down on you and the boys with a big grin on her face. She knows that they are in good hands with their dad. I know how happy she made you and how much you will miss her every day. I am reminded in moments like these that she has moved on to a place of no pain or suffering. I am sure she would want you and the boys to continue on with smiles on your faces. She is up in heaven rejoicing as she has finally been able to meet her maker. Be reminded of the below..

"The day which we fear is our last, is but the Birthday of our Eternity."

I read that quote about a dozen times, and all I could think of is how beautiful. To celebrate ones birthday in heaven, a new birthday the greatest days of our lives. Her life here is complete, but her eternity is just beginning. Praying for you, the boys, and your extended family and friends during this time of grief and pain.

Mary Beth was a warm and wonderful cousin. Though distance limited our contact, time spent with her always showed her closeness of family and her caring personality.

Erik and boys........I can not imagine the anguish, pain, and grief your heart and soul are going through right now. We will be there along with other family this weekend. Hold on to Isaiah 40:31.....but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. We are praying for you. Sending hugs.........love Cousin Julia and family.

The first time I met you was in 1976 in Japan! I enjoyed breaking bread with you, Erik and the boys years later at Crown Center in Kansas City, that was a good night! I have my memories, I have our letters, email correspondence and I have text messages from you that I will never erase. Technology will enable me to carry you forward into the future. Sleep well, Mrs. Teegerstrom because you have made such a great impression on my life. I miss you! ~Ron(Bro)
