William Tarver Obituary

William Allen (Bill) Tarver, CLU, 75, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2011 with his wife of 50 years by his side.
Bill graduated from Lamar University as a charter member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He loved his country dearly and served dutifully in both the Army and Navy. For the last 40 years, he has worked in the insurance industry, garnering numerous awards and accolades including lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Round Table. He recently merged his business with HARCO Insurance Services. He gave back to his profession through the American College and other insurance organizations. While his work was insurance, his passion was the Bellaire Lions Club. He also served on the board of Sight into Sound. He was a dreamer, loved life and was an eternal optimist. His wink and a smile will be greatly missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his eldest son, Thomas Robert Tarver, and is survived by wife Maris, sons David and Joel, daughter Laurie Temple, their spouses and seven grandchildren, brothers Peter and Chris Wilmot, sister Sally Shannon, brother-in-law Josh Clemmons and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was a member of Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, where his memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of the following charities: Tallowood Baptist Church Missions Program; Texas Lions Camp, PO Box 290247, Kerrville, TX 78029; Sight into Sound, 3935 Essex Lane, Houston, TX 77027; American College, 270 S Bryn Mawr Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.

Bill was a wonderful friend. He was always ready to greet you with a warm smile and word of encouragement. I will miss him, but praise God, because of our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will meet again.

Dear Maris, Joyce and I just returned from our Christmas vacation in Tennessee making us late in learning of Bill's passing. It was such a pleasure to see Bill at the Sigma Chi reunion in October, 2010. We enjoyed talking about our family histories and I was very proud to find out that we were cousins (double 1st cousins four generations removed). We will pray for you and your family, particularily that the Holy Spirit will give you comfort in this difficult time. God Bless you. Jack and Joyce Cockerham

I have known Bill for more than 50 years, as a fraternity brother in our local chapter of Kappa Phi at Lamar and as a charter member when we were initiated as charter members of Sigma Chi in 1961. He became my insurance and investment counselor after I moved to Houston and later after I married and had children. Bill was never one to be bashful, nor was he one to wait for something to happen. He was a man of action and a man of his word. Many times he met with my wife and I to discuss our investments. He came to our house in Spring on numerous ocassions. We learned to love him, not only as a true fraternity brother, but a very dependable adviser and a true friend. Bill Tarver, "All Honor to Your Name"!! In Hoc Signo Vinces.
