Robert Brown Obituary

Brown
Robert William Brown died on Friday, the 29th of April 2011, after a 13 year battle with cancer, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Bob was a loving husband, understanding father, and a doting grandfather. He leaves behind many friends who, when they found a friend in Bob, they found a friend for life.
Bob was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 7th of November 1948, to the late Anne and William Robert Brown. Bob graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. After graduation, Bob served in the U.S. Navy on a minesweeper and left the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant JG. He continued his service to his country in the Naval Reserves. Bob's college degree took him into banking, where he first worked for First Pennsylvania Bank and First City Bank. He concluded his successful banking career with Encore Bank, whom the Brown family would like to thank for their unending support. Bob was a member of the Texas Board of Certified Public Accountancy and acquired an MBA from Rutgers University.
Bob was an avid golfer who spent many frustrating hours on the golf course. He and his wife supported the Astros and were 16 year season ticket holders.
Bob was a loving husband and friend to his wife of 42 years, Cynthia. He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Heather Christine Harper and her husband, Travis Harper; his dedicated son, Peter William Brown; and adoring grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Harper and Sophia Anne Harper. He is also survived by his brother, Martin Brown of San Diego, California; his sister, Roseanne Schmidt of Hatboro, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 21st of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer.
For those desiring, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions, in Bob's name, be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, via their electronic website, www.stjude.org, or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Bob was my boss at First City in the mid-1970's. He was truly an extraordinary person. He was incredibly patient, generous, caring, and always able to cut the chase quickly. He knew what he was doing and he made a very difficult job enjoyable. I will always remember him and thank him for what he taught me. His loss is a loss for all of us.

Cynthia,

I was deeply saddened to learn about Bob losing his battle with cancer this morning. I took a pause from my work to remember our fun time on the golf course, hard work at the bank and laughter at both. Bob will always have a place in my heart. I am a better man and father for having known him. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Mark
