Robert William VAIO

Robert William VAIO obituary

Robert VAIO Obituary

Robert William Vaio, age 46, died suddenly on the 11th of February 2012 in South Texas. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 20 years, Laura Lee; a daughter, Alexandra Lee, 19; and two sons, Brett William, 14, and John Robert, 6. Also surviving are his parents, Aldo and Rosemary Vaio; his brother and two sisters; along with numerous loving in laws, nieces, and nephews.
Robert was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the 2nd of April 1965. He grew up in Albuquerque and later graduated with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University. After graduating he worked for Conoco and later attained a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame. Robert loved Notre Dame where he proposed to his wife-to-be, Laura Lee Lindenborn, at "the grotto." Robert and Laura Lee married on the 1st of June 1991 at St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Antonio.
During his professional career in the oil and gas industry Robert was named Vice President of Global Supply Chain for Hess Corporation. He also worked for Conoco, Arthur Andersen, and BearingPoint. During his business travels, Robert loved to experience new cultures and visited over 18 countries.
Much of Robert's free time was spent at the beach with his family, especially in his favorite place Maui, Hawaii. Recently, he fulfilled his dream of building a bay house, The Hula Girl, in Galveston, Texas. Robert's hobbies included taking his two sons to the annual Air Show, building models, water skiing on his "Big Daddy" ski, making Italian pasta from scratch with his famous Bolognese sauce, assembling his Christmas village during the holidays and being anywhere on a boat.
He was a faith filled man and honored his Lord by helping to start a men's bible study, That Man is You. Robert was the inspiration and moral support for the program, which now reaches 250 parishes and 18,000 men across the country. Robert also served his community as President of the St. Cecilia Catholic School Board and helped with numerous Catholic ministries.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until half-past seven o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 15th of February, in the Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. At half-past seven o'clock, an evening Vigil and recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence in the adjacent Jasek Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 16th of February, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, where the Most Rev. Vincent M. Rizzotto, Retired Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston, is to preside.
The family will gather for a private Rite of Committal immediately following the service, and then greet friends during a reception at a venue to be announced during the Mass.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to That Man Is You, P.O. Box 19127, Houston, TX, 77224; St. Agnes Academy, 9000 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX, 77036-4683; or to Strake Jesuit College Prepatory, 8900 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX, 77036.
He will be missed every day, but his family continues to celebrate what a beautiful life he lived.

I just want to acknowledge what a great person Robert was. He was the kindest, most gracious and patient person I ever worked for. I had the honor of assisting him and he was absolutely my most favorite boss. He was a family man, respectable and treated me the same as he would his superiors and colleagues. It was a blessing knowing him. I send prayers up today for the family, remembering Robert fondly,

May 7, 2021

Like the earlier comment I had the pleasure of working with Robert. He was always a joy and made the workplace a better place, a kinder place. He is missed. We shared a birthday a year apart and he is often in my thoughts.

February 6, 2020

I just wanted to reiterate and note that Robert was one of my very people to work for, ever. He was always so very gracious and kind, and loved his family. Such a pleasant person and always happy. My heart goes out to the family. I know he is greatly missed. Extending Prayers for you today.

Dear Alex,
I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I remember well the night we were together in Bata -- his gregarious and generous warmth and spirit! He loved you so very much and was so very proud of you. And, what trust he had that you had the strength to be "on your own" in EG! His passing is made all the harder by what a loving presence he was in your life and the life of your family. You are so fortunate to have had that love and to be able to carry it in your heart forever. I hope that it gives you and your family strength to help you make it through this very difficult time.

After my mom died many years ago, I continued having conversations with her in my head. (I still do.) Because she was such an important and close part of my life, I often reflect on what she would say or do in a situation. She is kind of like a "wise and compassionate compass" in my brain helping me find direction and sort out how to handle all kinds of challenges I face. Your dad seemed like a person whose judgment you'd value. His love and voice will stay with you. It doesn't erase the pain but it does help.

My sympathies are with you and your family. Please let me know if there is anything I can do or any way I can help.
Warm regards,
Abi (Harris)

Robert was such a wonderul man. The Vaio family has always been extremely kind to me and Robert was no exception. He took a chance on a young kind from Albuquerque, NM and brought him to Houston to the world of business consulting. He taught me how to take a chance, how to be professional, and how to push myself. I owe much of who I am today to Robert and his family. He was a special individual who touched so many people. He will be missed by all. My deepest condolences to the family.

Today we celebrate the life of a man that was a mentor and a consistent advocate for our family over the last 15 years. His unwavering faith, his dedication to family and the importance that he placed on the people around him are what defined his character. He was a role model...an example for all. He was our friend. Rest in peace.

Prayers of strength and peace for Laura Lee, Alex, Brett and John Robert.

"That man is Bob"...I will forever cherish having sat behind Bob and his beautiful family at mass just two Sunday's ago. What an honor to be granted the privilege of sharing the sign of peace with a man who would soon be in the arms of Our Lord and Blessed Mother. The Vaio family has always been stalwart in their faith and stewardship. What an inspiration they will continue to be as they, through Bob, are a shining example of what it means to be a Catholic Family in this world today. We grieve the earthly loss of the incredible patriarch the Vaio children had in Bob. We know Laura Lee will be given grace to persevere in this life without him, however unimaginable that is at the moment. Grace will carry you all through your grief as you watch the fruits of this unexpected cross multiply. We love you and will forever lift Bob and the Vaio family up in prayer. From a sudden and unprovided death, O Lord deliver him.

Senor Vaio - That was the nickname we gave Robert during our business review of the Arthur Andersen Spain practice. It suited him perfectly. He was a man who deserved respect in all aspects of his life. We met Laura Lee on that trip and it was very clear not only was he successful in business but extremely successful in marriage. We had a lot of great chats with them and felt like we were just another part of his big family. The Robert Vaio family which he managed to stretch around the globe. So Senor Vaio, as you look down upon us all please know you'll be remembered with the utmost respect, honored for impacting so many of our lives and missed more dearly than any words in this book could ever describe.

To the Vaio Family, A Great Family

I cannot remember the source, but it was said "A human life is a story told by God". Bobby's is a masterpiece, a best seller. I like to believe that when we lose someone close to us they still live through us and give us strength. May God's comfort help you during this time of loss and may the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Robert hired me at Arthur Andersen fresh out of college. I remember him being someone who I wanted to work for, someone who was willing to work hard and who expected you to do the same, but who valued you as a person. He made it less like work and more like a family working together. He helped to teach me what work can be like and how to treat and expect to be treated by co-workers of all levels.
