Stephen WILSON Obituary

WILSON
STEPHEN KILEY WILSON passed away on Tuesday, the 23rd of November at his home in Houston, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was 56.
He was born on the 25th of September 1954, in Beaumont, Texas, where he spent his early childhood. His family moved to Houston in the 60's and Steve attended Hunters Creek Elementary, and St. John's School. He spent a term at Cardigan Mountain in Connecticut and Le Rosey in Gstaad, Switzerland. He attended Colorado Rocky Mountain College where he became involved in the music world playing in rock and blues bands in Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, California and Nevada.
Known to many as "Little Stevie Wilson," Steve played in the New Orleans French Quarter for several years at Club 544 with Gary Brown and came to know many notable musicians, many of whom he remained in contact with. He spent several years in Austin and promoted his band "Project Terror." He had the opportunity to perform in venues that included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Stevie Ray Vaughn. During his musical years he also played with many of the old blues gentlemen of Houston, inclusive of Little Joe Washington, Earl Gillam, Oscar Perry, Clarence Green and Teddy Reynolds, with Mac and Company. He had occasion to play with Muddy Waters at Steamboat Springs in Houston. Muddy said he was "good little drummer." He loved the blues. He played with Chris Masterson at the Big Easy and Billy Blues in Houston in the early 80's. In 1998 he had the opportunity to perform at Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic with Willie Jaye. In 1999 he played for the last time at Galveston Mardis Gras.
Stevie's family history dates back to the MacDonald clan, and he wore his colors with pride. He was also descended from one of the founders of Denison, Texas, and he lived part of the time in a historic home he and his wife restored there.
Stevie supported the Houston Food Bank, Houston SPCA, the 100 Club, and many other charities. He was an eccentric with a gentle soul and a huge heart who was loved by many.
Steve was predeceased by his brother, Bradley Randolph Wilson and his beloved mother, Betty Kiley Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Terisa Washington Wilson; step-daughters, Bonnie Louise Baker and Katie Pearl Thomas; his father James Cooke Wilson Jr.; brother, James Cooke Wilson III and his wife Karen; sister, Margaret Wilson Reckling; nephew, Thomas Radcliffe Reckling, V.; and niece Kelsey Randolph Reckling; as well as numerous cousins and his uncle Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey, Sr., M.D. Stevie had an enormous love for animals. He leaves behind a family of rescued pets whom he adored.
A celebration of Stevie's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 30th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where The Rev. Richard H. Elwood is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family for a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, Stevie would have appreciated memorial contributions to be directed to the Houston Food Bank, 3811 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX, 77026; the Houston S.P.C.A., 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX, 77024; or to the 100 Club of Houston, 5555 San Felipe St., Suite 520, Houston, TX, 77056-2733.

It has been all these months and I just found out about Stevie passing away. I guess that comes from me being overseas for so many years. I remember him from the Project Terror days when he, Bill Maddox and Tony Dukes were the toast of the town. I was a star struck kid that they took under their wings and let me live out some fantasies. Stevie literally made some dreams come true. He was the wild and woolly, ready and willin', sometimes thrillin', always killin', bone chillin', Kentucky Fried kid. RIP my friend.

The passing of Little Stevie Wilson leaves one less beat in this world...

To the Wilson family - It was unbearable to learn, quite accidentally, of Stevie's passing. He was a very dear friend of mine in the late 1970s and early 80s before I moved abroad. He was a complete original - endlessly amusing and one of the purest spirits I have ever known. I remember how thrilled he was when my radio partner at KLOL, Crash Collins, and I auctioned rock star memorabilia to benefit the public television station in Houston and chose to include a Project Terror pack, containing a T-shirt, stickers and other treasures from the band. They were my pet band, and I will always consider them a unique and special part of Texas music history. I would love to be able to connect with any of the Wilson family to share stories they might find comforting. My email is [email protected], in case anyone would like to contact me. I am attaching a photo from my archive of Stevie with Ted Nugent and two other members of Project Terror's second lineup, backstage at a concert in Dallas. I hope everyone will enjoy it. It's a classic depiction of Stevie, and it's the way I'll always remember him.

Teresa please know that you are in our prayers where we beseech our Heavenly Father to care for and watch over you in this time of bereavement. I only knew "Stevie" for a short time but was so delighted to meet him and converse with him while he told of his many accomplishments in the area of music... he certainly was a man who succumbed to significant achievements in his journey here on this earth and I pray that his more recent journey will take him to the music room in his Heavenly Home with our Heavenly Father...for in our Father's House are many Mansions... May God bless you, the girls and the entire family with peace, love and understanding...we will miss "Stevie" too.

Terisa and Bonnie,
What a beautiful tribute to your loving Husband/Dad. He was quite an accomplished musician earlier in his life. You will cherish those memories. Know that you are in our prayers.

I also remember him playing with Edgar Winter and Aaron Neville. What great experiences he must have had. Count me in that group that loved him.
