Norman Guzick Obituary
1937-2015
Dr. Norman Guzick, son of Leon and Raye Kogutt Guzick, was born in Bay City, Texas. After graduating Bay City High School, he went on to get his BS and Masters of Chemical Engineering at University of Texas and University of Michigan. After working in the Chemical industry for 10 years in research and international business, he earned his MD at UTMB, Galveston. Norman was a board certified Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist for 38 years at Memorial Southwest and was chief of Dermatology there for 20. He was a Dermatology professor at UTMB, Galveston and UTMB, Houston where he trained family practice residents for 30 years. Beloved by his students, they named an award in his honor for teaching excellence. Norman was married to his devoted wife Arlene "Happy" Horwitz for 49 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Paul. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Sarah Guzick, his son-in-law, David Santamaria, his grandson, Lev Santamaria, his sister, Charlotte Bradley and his brothers, Louis and Maury Guzick. Norman, and his wife, faced the unimaginable pain of losing a child at seven years old and yet, he somehow managed to carry on, raise a beautiful daughter and inspire so many lives throughout his own life. Norman was a unique, brilliant, positive, passionate, life long scholar, loyal father and husband, caring doctor, committed Jew, brother, son, citizen, mentor, teacher, and friend of the highest values and ethics. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015, at 11:00AM at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut, followed by a graveside service at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Norman's name.

Dr. Guzick saved my life 37 years ago. When I was 25 he removed a small mole that was melanoma. He was coming to Wharton at the time and I lived in Bay City. How fortunate that we had the opportunity to have the services of the best of the best. I continued to see him yearly for 25 years. What a kind and brillant doctor. So very sorry to hear of his passing.

Dr. Guzick was our neighbor, our dermatologist, and our friend. He was a sweet, kind, intelligent man. I was thrilled that he gave me Accutane to treat my severe acne and I have very fond memories of spending time as a teenager with his whole family. They should be very proud to be carrying on his legacy. I know he will be missed.
