SYBIL GLASH Obituary

SYBIL BLEVINS GLASH passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010. She died in her husband's loving arms, and awoke in the arms of her blessed Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born Feb. 8, 1926 to Mary and Elmer Blevins. As a coal miner's daughter, Sybil cherished her idyllic childhood growing up in the hills of West Virginia surrounded by the love of 10 siblings, her extended family and loyal friends in the little mining town of Mahan.Sybil met her true love, Gene Glash, in those hills when she was 11 years old. She married him at age 17 just as he was leaving to fight in WWII. They moved to Houston after the War and became one of the greatest love stories of all time, celebrating 66 years of marriage this past year. Their relationship was filled with mutual love, respect and adoration and their love for each other radiated to everyone around them.A lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church, Sybil was a great example of selfless love for Christ and those around her. She never met a stranger and spread joy everywhere she went. In her battle with life-threatening illnesses the last years of her life, she inspired others with her strong spirit and incredible will to live. Her home and her heart were always open to others and all who entered could bask in the warmth of her sweet spirit and winning smile. She made up for her tiny stature with her huge personality, showering love on her devoted husband, adoring children and grandchildren.Sybil is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, sons: John Kyle and Larry Glash, and granddaughter, Whitney Whitelock. She is survived by her husband, Gene Glash, and her children: Ron Glash and wife, Denise, Rosemary (Glash) Whitelock and husband, David, daughter-in-law, Cathy Glash Pierce, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and four siblings: Lil Randolph, Mary Lou Campbell, Tommy Blevins, and Wayne Blevins.A Memorial Service will be held at April Sound Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 18 with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Ron,

Please accept my condolences on passing of your Mom. I clearly remember a dozen or so years ago when you brought her to the office after hours one day and introduced me. Etched in my mind is a perky little lady in tennis sneakers keeping you in your place during our chat. I am sure you, your Dad and family will have many good memories to cherish.

Sincerely,

Tim Wasp

Dear Glash and Blevins families,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time. Sybil and Gene played such a big part in my life many years ago when they lead the youth groups at Oaklawn Presyterian. They shared so much love and fun with us. Just know how much she meant to so many and that love will carry on forever. God bless you all, Love, Kay (Keith) Lee
