Anita Martin Obituary

ANITA LIGARDE MARTIN In peace, untroubled, and unafraid, Mrs. Anita Ligarde Martin passed away and went on to join the Lord on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the age of 89. Anita was born in Laredo, Texas. She attended Martin High School. Following her graduation she attended Incarnate Word College. Anita was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, godmother and aunt; yet, she always found time to help in many civic and charitable organizations. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, a member of the Society of Martha Washington where she worked on various committees and portrayed Martha Washington in 1953. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Women's City Club, Blessed Sacrament Altar Society and Friends of Saint Augustine. She served as president of the Saint Augustine Restoration Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amedee and Sara Ligarde, her loving husband, J.C. Martin, Jr., her brothers, Honoree and Amedee Ligarde and her sister, Alicia Ligarde Benavides. Mrs. Martin is survived by her beloved children, J.C. Martin III, Patricia M. (Dr. Michael) Galo, Marialice (Richard) M. Cohen, and Minnie M. Daugherty; her grandchildren, Joe C. Martin IV, Albert Martin II, Michelle Martin Neal, Melissa Martin Baldwin, Lisa Galo Westmoreland, Michael V. Galo Jr., Iris Martin Brooks, John A. Daugherty, and Annie Daugherty. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Charles D. Maynard III, Melissa Maynard, Chantal Martin, Hunter Baldwin, Tyler Baldwin, Michael V. Galo III, and Kelsey Westmoreland and her sister, Sara Gilbert. A rosary was recited Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 7 p.m. at San Agustin Cathedral, 201 San Agustin Avenue, Laredo, Texas. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services were Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at San Agustin Cathedral, 201 San Agustin Avenue, Laredo, Texas. Interment followed in the family's plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Michael V. Galo Jr., Joe C. Martin IV, Albert Martin II, John Daugherty Jr., Pat Valls, Darrien Ligarde and Gerardo Ligarde. In lieu of flowers donations will be made to the Sacred Heart Orphanage, Casa de Misericordia, the Saint Augustine Cathedral Restoration Fund and the Gladney Adoption Agency in Fort Worth, TX.
