Ann Ridgely Barber Heald PhD, 86, of Houston, passed away June 30, of natural causes. Born to the late Willard and Marie (née Abraham) Barber, In Houston on February 25, 1927. Lived most of her life in Houston, and Baytown. PhD in Linguistics from UTA. Ann was a teacher in Pasadena, TX and worked for the Peace Corps; many years retired. Widow of John M. Heald. Survived by daughters Anne, Eugenia, and Sydney and adoptive son Aladdin. Also survived by grandson Gant and great-granddaughters Hannah and Leah, and cousin Dr Mark Chambers.

Patron of the arts, including several Houston museums, the HGO and the Houston Ballet. Passionate supporter of Public Radio and TV, The Houston Zoo and several animal humane societies. Member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be buried at sea, with a private Anglican service.
