Bob McEachern Obituary

Bob McEachern of Liberty Hill, Texas, passed away on Christmas morning after a lengthy illness. Born August 8, 1929, Bob is a native Austinite. He is predeceased by his wife Charlene, his parents, Eldora and Elbert McEachern, and by his younger sister, Gwendolyn Bearden.
Bob was a graduate of Austin High School, class of 1948. He played center for the Austin Maroons and was awarded a football scholarship to TCU in Ft. Worth. After graduation, Bob continued his playing career with the B. C. Lions in the Canadian Football League.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Korea. While on furlough in 1952, Ensign Bobbie Lawrence McEachern met and fell in love with Charlene Janak of Smithville. They married in 1954, and until her death in 1986, they complemented one another beautifully; they were devoted parents, adoring grandparents, and were the smoothest two-steppers on the dance floor.
After his discharge from the Navy, Bob knew he wanted to be a teacher and a coach. His career took Charlene and their growing family from Greenville, Texas, to Houston Reagan High School, then to Houston Furr where he served as head coach. Later, he was an assistant coach at Madison High in Houston. After rearing their four children, Bob and Charlene returned home to the Austin area, where they both worked for Del Valle ISD, she as a classroom teacher, and he as the head football coach. During his career as an educator, Bob influenced and encouraged thousands of young people.
In May of 1991, Bob was blessed to marry Doris Leavitt of Liberty Hill, Texas. She was a loving wife who devoted herself to his happiness and who treated his family as her own.
Bob had an outgoing personality and made friends easily. He delighted in spending time with his children and his grandchildren. Weekends would find him playing golf or hunting or spending time at their lake cabin on Lake LBJ. After his retirement, he received the "Well Done" medal from the Austin High Hall of Honor for his service during the Korean Conflict, and he served several terms as Mayor of Liberty Hill.
He is survived by his wife Doris, his children Randy McEachern and wife Jenna; Greg McEachern and wife Jill; Kay Lane Hardeman and husband Tom; Brad McEachern and wife Debbie; grandchildren Bailey and Hays McEachern, Lester Simmons, Landon McEachern, Madison Hebert and husband Justin, Morgan and Makenna Banner, Hunter, Parker, Sydney, and Landry McEachern, Frank and Kevin Haynes, Brittany and Ashley Ausborn and Ashley Williamson Morrison, step-children Debbie Fisher and husband Mike, Donna Haynes and husband Wylie, and by great-grandchildren Kimberly and Jacob Ausborn.
Honorary pallbearers are Hays McEachern, Lester Simmons, Landon McEachern, Hunter McEachern, Parker McEachern, Frank Haynes, and Kevin Haynes.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 1200 S. Bagdad Rd in Leander.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1315 Barbara Jordan Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78723.

Randy, Jenna, & Family,

My condolences for your earthly loss. I know that you will miss Coach immensely, but considering all the lives he touched in such a positive way and the guidance he gave to so many young people, know that his "future" was secured long ago and his mansion awaited.
