Cecil M. Burnette, 75, died Monday, March 4, at his home in Houston . Cecil was born in Bristol, Virginia. He was predeased by his parents, Jesse and Mamie Burnette, and a sister, Jane Smith, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Survivors include his sister, Kitty Maiden and a brother, Bob, in Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. He grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, graduated from Seabreeze High School and attended the University of Florida. Cecil served in the U.S. Army. He worked at the Daytona Beach News-Journal prior to moving to Houston. He was Advertising Manager at the Houston Post, before starting his own business, Mid-Town Printing in Houston. He was very active in the Living Mosaic : Montrose Church, where he centered his life, surrounded by his "second family" which included long time friend, Ray Stowell and many other loving, wonderful friends . A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 9, 3pm at the Living Mosaic Church, 4920 Cullen Blvd., Houston.

Cecil and I were high school classmates. I will treasure the memories that I have of him. He had a wonderful smile and was a special friend. I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

Cecil Burnette was the most beautiful soul..i was fortunate enough to have him for my supervisor at the Houston Post and a friend long after that....

I just learned of Cecil's passing and I feel very honored and blessed that I had the privilege to get know him on the past few months.

He was a wonderful but lovable friend and teacher. He was one of our closest buddies that me and my mom has ever had. We're gonna miss you buddy til we see each other again!
