David Shindeldecker Obituary

DAVID CALVIN SHINDELDECKER passed away in his sleep on the 25th of October 2008, while at a pheasant hunting lodge in South Dakota. He was 59 years young. He loved the outdoors and actively pursued hunting, fishing and hiking. To Pam, Alex and Alison,

I had the priivelege of working with Dave at Northwest Bank from 1988 -2001. He was a great leader and friend and made every employee feel like a part of his family. He always took the time to listen to any question you might have had, and welcomed your input and suggestions. His wisdom and generosity will be missed by many. My thoughts are with you now.

I caddied for Mr. Shindeldecker at Shadowhawk Country club with his father Mr. Ansel Shindeldeck and Gifford Nielson about 8 years ago. I was struck by his humility and his endearing respect for his father. He was very respectful to me but I was most touched because I too have a father and it was humbling to see the reciprocol reverance Mr. Ansel Shindeldecker had for his son David. That one day was more than 'loop and a tip' because it left an indelible mark on me and affirm my respect and admiration for my father. - it was a beautiful day that day! My condolences to the Shindeldecker family; my thoughts and prayers are with you.

He will me missed!

Dear Pam and Family,
I worked with Dave at First City as a colleague and a friend. We lost touch but I always thought about him and pass by his name everyday on a plaque at our local YMCA. I learned so much from him. He not only taught me more about finance, he taught me about myself. Through his support and mentoring, he gave me self-confidence that I still carry today. He was also lots of fun and I will never forget that twinkle in his eyes. Dave came to mind again many years later when my son developed Type-1 Diabetes. I had always planned to reach out to Dave, just to check in, as he always remained in the back of my mind. I’m sad that I have missed my chance. He has left a mark on my life and I am just another example of his legacy which reaches so far and wide. He may be gone from this Earth, but his touch and spirit remain all over with so many people. I’m thinking of you all.

As an Executive Director of Pepper Homeloans, an Australian company in which the Redstone Group was a major shareholder for a number of years, it was always a great pleasure working alongside David Shindeldecker. David was a tough negotiator, a trusted adviser and mentor, but above all he was a man of the highest principles. David was the consummate businessman and strategist. He was also extremely loyal and was always willing to share his vast experience with those who sought it. He will be greatly missed, both personally and professionally, and is an enormous loss to all who knew him. From the Pepper Homeloans team in Sydney, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Shindeldecker family and the Redstone team at this difficult time. God Bless.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Although I was never privileged to know him well, he was an annual benefactor to the Dave Marr Memorial Golf Tournament, which I helped organize to benefit golfing youth of Houston. My thoughts and prayers are with his family for their loss.

With heartfelt sympathies for the family and the deepest respect and admiration of a true gentleman.

I did not know David well -- met him in 2006.

What I do know is that David was an incredibly smart and an incredibly decent human being -- the kind of person you want your children to be like when they are grown.

I was so shocked to hear about Mr. Shindeldecker's passing. When we moved here in the 80's, he was one of my Father's first and truest friend. His smile would light up any room that he entered. I know that I speak for all of my family...he will be missed SO much. Sending my thoughts and prayers and a huge hug to the entire Shindeldecker family.

I worked for David at First City Bank and he was my manager. Over the many years I've thought of him because he is one of the few good supervisors I've had in my lifetime. Good hearted, pleasant and jovial. He is is God's care now and I pray God will comfort you in the days, weeks and years to come.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.
