Georganna Parsley Obituary

GEORGANNA "GANA" STRAKE PARSLEY died on Thursday, June 20, 2002. A native Houstonian, she was born on January 20, 1932 at St. Joseph Hospital to George William Strake and Susan Kehoe Strake. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy. Gana enjoyed college and attended several, including Mary Mount College. Gana married Robert Horace Parsley, in 1953 and was the mother of ten children and grandmother of thirty-two grandchildren. She was a "Professional Mother and Grandmother" to not only her own, but to many others around the country who were part of the extended Parsley family. She was actively involved in the lives of her children and their schools, which included St. Michael Catholic School, St. Agnes Acadmey, St. Pius X High School, and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, where she served as President of the Mother's Club. Additionally, she was a long time member of the Catholic Charity Guild, the Houston Junior League, the Newman Circle and the StrakeFoundation. She was an associate Member of the Houston Country Club. She will be remembered for her charity, her ability to respond in moments of crisis and her love for her family. She is predeceased by her beloved "Foss", her husband of forty-eight years and is survived by her ten children and her "Out Laws: Bob and Louise Parsley, Sharon and Tom McNearney, Michele and Ronnie Johnston, Dr. Brian Parsely, Sandra and Ken Moffet, Sally and Dr. Hal Condara, David and Ginny Parsley, John and Jill Parsley, Dan and Allison Parsley, Jana and John McHenry; Thirty-two grandchildren: Elizabeth, Bayless and Garland Parsley; Katie, Allison, Michael and Patrick McNearney; Laura Russell and Austin Johnston; Catherine, Jennifer, Nan and Allie Parsley; Abbey and Hanna Moffet; Andrea, Erin, Susie, Christopher, Benjamin and Cameron Condara; Steven, Ashley and Caroline Parsley; Will and Stuart Parsley; Diana, Julia and Douglas Parsley; Georgia, Robert and Matthew McHenry. Other relatives include her brother, George W. Strake, Jr. and wife, Annette; brother-in-law, Robert Dilworth; sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae Parsley Cook of Erwin, TN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our special thanks to our dear friends Margie Roberts, Gina Duffy, Judy Mansfield for their devotion to the entire Parsley family for many years; and to Louis, Carolyn, LeAnn and Martha for their care and support over the last several months. Thanks to David Braden, MD, Juan Olivera, MD and Tom Blair, MD, for their medical care over the past years. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2002 in the Chapel of J.B. Earthman - Tanglewood Funeral Directors, 5740 San Felipe at Bering Drive, with a Rosary and Celebration of Gana's life to be held at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2002 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, with Rev. Sean P. Horrigan, Celebrant, and assisted by the clergy of Strake Jesuit. Rite of Committal will follow in the Garden of Gethsemani at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her five son-in-laws and three oldest grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be David J. Braden, MD, Judge Joseph M Guarinp, John L. McConn, John McLean, Tom Nolan, Henry V. Seger, Richard A. Sheehy, C. Jim Stewart, Jr., Dewitt Waltmon and Jack Duffy and James Reichert. In lieu of flowers and for those desiring, Memorial contributions may be directed to: Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, 8900 Bellaire Blvd. Houston, Texas 77036; St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, 1919 La Branch, Houston, Texas 77002; or St. Agnes Academy, 9000 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77036.
