Gilbert Gordon Allen went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, the 16th of February 2012. Gil was a devoted & loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Gil was born in St. Louis, Missouri on the 11th of December 1923. He married Ella McAshan on the 13th of August 1945. Ella and Gilbert were the love of each other's lives. Gil enjoyed being an active member of First United Methodist Church of Houston. Gil loved to play golf. His home away from home was with Ella in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Gil was preceded in death by his wife, Ella; his parents, Earl and Fairy Allen; his brother, John Allen; and a grandson, Joshua Nathan Allen. He is survived by his children, Carol Hackler, Virginia Scelfo and her husband Steve, Janice Coker and her husband Mark and Reverend Gib Allen and his wife Tamie. Grandchildren are Anna Wall and her husband Mackie, Jennifer and Michael Hackler; Stephanie Kallmeyer and her husband Brandon, Reece and Caitlyn Scelfo; Catherine Stoner and her husband Gary and Allison Coker; Celeste and her husband Randy Osborne and Jonathan and Victoria Allen. His great grandchildren are Jack, Ella, and Wyatt Wall, Hayden and McAshan Kallmeyer, and Joshua, Parker and James Osborne.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two until five o'clock this afternoon, Sunday, the 19th of February, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
His funeral service is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 20th of February, at First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main Street in Houston, where Dr. Stephen P. Wende, Senior Pastor, is to officiate.
The interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mr. Allen's name be directed to First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main St., Houston, TX, 77002; or to Cornerstone Christian Academy, 14314 Walters Rd., Houston, TX, 77014.
