Jack Polk Obituary
Jack Polk passed from this life to the presence of his Heavenly Father on April 19, 2012. Born August 4, 1921 in Houston, raised in the Heights, graduating from Reagan H.S. class of 1939. Jack served in the Army Air Corp from 1942-1946, then attending the University of Houston acquiring a Masters in education, coaching and teaching at Cy Fair H.S. Jack later started Arran Office Furniture Co. and remained in that business many years. He will be remembered for his love of sports, as a player, coach and umpire. The 1940's and 50's produced many good softball players, particularly pitchers, and Jack was one of them. He had 3 no hitters to his credit. He was a good man who had no vices. He was preceded in death by his parents Lucius Rivers Polk and Lelah Edith Polk, brothers Giles and George and sister, Jane. He is survived by nephews, John H. Polk, Lee Rivers Polk, John C. Polk, George Polk Jr., George Polk III and nieces, Sharon Polk and Jane Keese. The family will host visitation at Heights Funeral Home 1317 Heights Blvd, Tuesday, May 1, 6:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral service Wednesday, May 2, at 10:00 A.M. at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, with military honors. In lieu of customary remembrances family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be made to Boys and Girls Country, 18806 Roberts Rd. Hockley, TX 77447.
