Jim was a professional test engineer if ever there was one. Professional with a capital P, and infinite Integrity. I had the privilege to work with Jim and his Thermal Vacuum Team at NASA Houston on Apollo Spacecraft 008 and 2TV1 in the Bldg. 32 Thermal Vacuum Chamber. It was a tough test series with facility and spacecraft hardware all brand new. The test series was a constraint to the first manned Apollo flight and JIM MCLANE got the Team through satisfying that constraint. He was a true Leader.

Although I only met Mr. McLane once, he was the sweetest man I've ever met. I've known his granddaughter,Krystal for almost 3 years now and heard lots of good things and stories about "grandpa". He was a well loved man and I only wish I could have gotten to know him better. My prayers go out to the family for such a big loss.

I shall always have fond memories of Jim McLane. Jim was my first division chief when I began my career with NASA. He always treated the people who worked for him with respect and courtesy. Jim was a man of principle and always had a strong work ethic which I and others who knew and respected him have done our very best to emulate. Jim and I continued our wonderful friendship after we each retired from government service and became active and contributing members of the NASA Retirement League.

Jim, I will miss you very much. I remember especially the support and leadership you gave to the International Space Activities Committee of our Houston AIAA Section, back when I was also on that committee.
Bon voyage,

Jim: It is with saddened heart that I bid you a final farewell.
I wish you fair winds and blue sky always. Please reserve a place in that big hanger in the sky for me and the rest of your 357th Fighter Group buddies that have not made that final take-off. We will all be joining you sooner or later.
