Jerry Newton Smith, age 80, of Kingwood, passed away May 1, 2013. He was born on July 15, 1932 in Plainview TX to William Chester and Maudie Lea Newton Smith. In 1950 he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Newfoundland, where he met his future wife Ruth. They were married on October 14, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA. Jerry was in charge of vehicle maintenance and worked on heavy equipment and aircraft. He was stationed at various bases in the States, as well as 2 tours in Taiwan. In August of 1972 he retired from the Air Force after proudly serving for 22 years. After moving to Houston, Jerry went to work for Diamond Shamrock (Greens Bayou), and retired from ISK Biotech in '97. After retiring he had many hobbies, including woodwork, yard work, travelling, and generally fixing things. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Smith of Kingwood; son, Eddie Smith and wife Cindy of Cove; daughter, Melody McDaniel and husband Rob of Kingwood; and grandchildren, Jared, Carter and Rachel Smith, and Patrick and Kylie McDaniel. Brother, Bill Smith and wife Herma of Dallas; and sister, Sammie Ruth Stull of Arizona; The family will receive friends at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Road, Baytown, TX, 77521, on Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 3-6 PM.
